abused and neglected children and to the victims of domestic violence
in general.
Basic programmes of NPDK:
- Child Crisis Centre in Zilina – Zádubnie (CCC)
The Child Crisis Centre is a residential centre providing complex
services to children who have been abused and neglected. Its capacity
is 22 clients (mostly children, occasionally battered women with
their children). The services include:
- Crisis intervention
- psychological, social a special/pedagogical diagnostics
- psychological therapy
- accommodation, food, cloths
- health care (in co-operation with local hospitals and paediatricians)
- education (care for children with special education needs,
ensuring school attendance at local schools, providing help
with homework, accompanying children to and from school)
- CCC staff: 15 people (psychologists, social workers, special
pedagogues, carers...)
- Counselling for women who have been abused: offering
services like
- Social and psychological counselling for abused women
- Individual and group psychological support
- Preventive and educational activities focused on the problems
of domestic violence
- Counselling for women aimed to develop their skills and competencies
necessary to improve their access to the labour market
- Counselling for endangered families:
- Field social work
- Multidisciplinary approach to the solution of the problems
of the family
- Counselling for substitute families
- Trainings/seminars for frontline workers and other professionals:
teachers, social workers, paediatricians, psychologists, judges…
- CAN prevention for children: experiential workshops,
teaching children self protection…
- Raising public awareness to the problems of domestic violence:
campaigns, addressing public through media…
- Publishing of information materials dealing with the problems
of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, child sexual exploitation:
leaflets, brochures, translation of specialized literature (training
manuals)
